⸻ TESTING & INVESTIGATION

Discover the root cause of your midlife health concerns

Testing over guessing. Functional and clinical testing, used strategically - only where it provides meaningful insight.

⸻ My approach

Looking beyond standard blood tests.

A scientist in a laboratory using a benchtop analyzer machine.

Standard laboratory testing is designed to identify disease. Many midlife symptoms, however, arise when systems are under strain but still within "normal" reference ranges.

Functional testing allows us to explore patterns that may not be visible through basic screening markers. It clarifies how different systems - hormones, thyroid, metabolism, gut health, stress physiology - are interacting.

In some cases, careful clinical assessment alone reveals the patterns that explain persistent symptoms. In others, targeted functional testing is what turns a guess into a clear answer.

⸻ Frequently used tests

The tools used - when they help, not by default.

Hormone Testing

The DUTCH test - comprehensive hormone analysis.

A urine-based test offering an in-depth analysis of hormonal health - oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and adrenal hormones, including cortisol, DHEA, and melatonin. Hormone imbalances can contribute to fatigue, unexplained weight gain, insomnia, mood changes, fertility issues, and PCOS. The test also assesses organic acid markers, certain vitamins, and neurotransmitter levels - offering a thorough picture of individual hormonal need.

⸻ Testing philosophy

Testing is selective and purposeful - never excessive.

The goal is to understand how different systems are interacting. We test where it provides meaningful clinical insight - not for the sake of generating data. The right test at the right time turns guesswork into clarity.

"Testing is never used simply to generate more data. It is used to answer meaningful questions."
